Brakes + Clutch

Any motor enthusiast understands the importance of having quality and high-performance brakes & clutch on their vehicles. These small yet important vehicle parts are responsible for transferring the engine’s rotating movement to accelerate and decelerate within short durations. They come in a variety of types; pneumatic, hydraulic, and electromagnetic.

The brakes & clutch are used interchangeably and sometimes simultaneously when operating a motor vehicle. Braking works by pressing a brake pedal which in turn transmits pressure via the carbon pads to the metal discs attached to the wheels. As such, the friction due to pressure wears the carbon pads which will need to be replaced over time.

The clutch, on the other hand, is utilised for a variety of situations; to put the vehicle in motion, shift gears while in motion and stop the car without stalling the engine. A typical motor vehicle has a flywheel and a clutch plate. On pressing the clutch pedal, the clutch plate disengages from the flywheel and consequently cutting off the transmission to the wheels. You can press the clutch pedal as fast as you want but when releasing it, you have to control the motion to allow for smooth take off and change of gears. As such, the clutch plates uses friction to allow the engine-wheels transmission. With time, the clutch plate wears out and it will need a replacement or a remodel.

Brakes are critical components of a vehicle’s safety. As such, the brake system requires regular maintenance and repairs. A single fault in the brake system can have adverse consequences on motorists’ and pedestrians’ life. Common faults within the system are; irregular vibrations/noises. Clutches, on the other hand, do not need as regular service as the brakes do. However, should you notice peculiar vibrations or noises when shifting gears, slippage between gear changes or burnt smelling transmission, it implies that there is a problem with the clutch system. An urgent checkup is necessary to avoid more damage or danger.
